Olive Y. (Billadeau) Smith, 88 years of Brockton died Friday February 6, 2009 at Colony House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Abington after a long illness. She was the wife of the late John G. Smith. Born in Lynn, a daughter of the late Thomas and Anne Marie (Brennan) Billadeau, she was raised in Stoughton and educated in Brockton. Olive had worked for several years at Budge’s Fish Market in Brockton. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary VFW Post 1046 in Brockton. She had been an accomplished seamstress. Olive enjoyed singing, ball room dancing throughout the Brockton area with her husband; she also enjoyed cooking and was known as the chocolate cake lady, if anyone did her a favor they would be rewarded with a chocolate cake. But her most enjoyment in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family who loved her so much.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary R. Burns and her husband John R. Jr. of Abington, Janet A. McGinty and her husband Thomas G. of Brockton, a son, John C. Smith and his wife Joanne of W. Bridgewater, her grandchildren, John R. III, Michael D., James C. and Joseph R. Burns, Thomas W. and Susan J. McGinty, John C., Kelli M. and Michelle B. Smith, 11 great grandchildren, and a brother, George Billadeau of Florida. She was the sister of the late Lorraine McMenany, Eva Brady, Warren, Walter and William Billadeau.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 10am. Funeral Mass in St. Bridget Church , Abington at 11am. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland.
