Toni Sharon (Pina) DeBarros, 62, of New Bedford died February 5, 2009 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital after a long battle with COPD/emphysema and congestive heart failure.
She was the wife of Warren F. "Timmy" DeBarros of New Bedford.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of Mary A. (Rose) Pina of New Bedford and the late Antone T. Pina, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. DeBarros was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
She was formerly employed by the city of New Bedford for over 30 years. She enjoyed working at City Hall under the administrations of Mayor Bullard and Mayor Tierney and prior to that worked for many community agencies.
Mrs. DeBarros enjoyed visiting her daughter and grandson in Manhattan, reading, music and loved the City of New Bedford. Her grandson was the joy of her life.
Survivors include her husband; her daughter, Tammy DeBarros of New Bedford; her grandson, Chandler DeBarros; 2 brothers, Ronald Pina and Carlton Pina, both of Dartmouth; 3 sisters, Jaymie Monteiro and Susan Spencer, both of New Bedford and Jeanna Antunes of Dartmouth; her companion, Nestor Martinez of New Bedford; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, aunts and uncles.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 10th at 10 AM in St. Lawrence Church. Remembrances may be made to the Chandler DeBarros Fund, c/o New Bedford Credit Union, 1150 Purchase St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
