Taunton, Robert "Bob" Santos, a long time resident of both Berkley and Taunton, died Sunday February 1, 2009 at New England Medical Center in Boston after a brief illness. He was 66 years of age. Bob, the son of the late Charles and Hilda (Botelho) Santos was born and raised in New Bedford. He graduated from New Bedford High School and attended Bryant College in R.I. where he received a degree in Business. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the South Eastern Regional Services Department of Mental Retardation. He worked at the Paul A. Dever State School as a Recreational Therapist for many years, as well as the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a District Manager for twelve years. He enjoyed music and was a musician who played guitar with several local and national groups during his lifetime. He was also a disc jockey at WBSM and WRLM where he hosted the long running Country Showcase radio show on Sunday nights. He enjoyed drawing and spending time on Martha's Vineyard. Mr. Santos served in the U.S. Army and also the Army National Guard, where he was honored with the National Defense Services Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by three children, Rob Santos and his wife Nell Mulderry of New York City, Heidi Santos and her fiancée Joseph Straub of Taunton, Randy Santos and his companion Beverly Melito of Taunton. He leaves two grandchildren Kailey and Kaicey, an aunt and several cousins. Private services will be held at the National Cemetery in Bourne.
