New Bedford - Joao Sousa age 86 died Wednesday February 4, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Maria Paixao (Craveiro) Sousa of New Bedford. Mr. Sousa was the father of David husband of Maria Sousa of New Bedford, and Joao husband of Pamela Sousa of Dartmouth. He was the grand father of Susan Sousa, Michelle Pacheco, and Melissa Sousa and also the great-grandfather of Darian Sousa, Ethan Pacheco, and Quinn Pacheco. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sousa was the son of the late Joao and Virginia (Vieira) Sousa. He was born St. Michael, Azores, Portugal and lived in this area scene 1967. He was employed maintenance man at Kristen Beth Nursing Home. He loved his gardening
Mr. Sousa’s Funeral will be Saturday at 8 A.M. at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at St John the Baptist Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 5-8 P.M.
