Obituary

Peter N. Carroll, 65, of Foxboro and formerly of Walpole, passed away January 30 in Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Vietze) Carroll.
Born in Norwood, July 29, 1943, the son of the late Warren and C. Jean (Hendrickson) Carroll, Mr. Carroll was raised in Walpole and had lived in Foxboro for the past 40 years.
Mr. Carroll was a graduate of Walpole High School, Class of 1961; he also received a B.A. in Elementary Education from Boston State College and a Masters in Special Education from Boston College.
Mr. Carroll taught in the Norwood School System for 35 years before retiring.
He had been a special education teacher at the Norwood Jr. High School for many years and then became an aide for children with Autism at Cleveland School.
In 1992, Mr. Carroll was named Teacher of the Year and was given this award established by James Sokolove. He was nominated by his former students and their parents and chosen over 150 other candidates.
Mr. Carroll along with his partner Bill Bruno, were the DJ’s of the Rock and Roll Review which played at many area parties and weddings over the years.
Pete Carroll was involved with the Foxboro Jaycees and for over 50 years was an active member of the Union Congregational Church in East Walpole.
Recently, Mr. Carroll and his wife, Barbara were given the honor of being named Deacon Emeriti of the Union Congregational Church.
Pete Carroll was renowned locally for his love of children, animals, music and toys and for his great sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his favorite children, Nate Carroll and his wife, Toni of Riverside, RI, Susie Boyle and her husband, Dennis of Tega Cay, SC and Matt Carroll and his wife, Jackie of Foxboro.
He is also survived by his sister, Gay McCarthy and her husband, James of Walpole, his brother, Dennis Carroll and his wife, Kathy of Norwood and his brother, Paul Carroll and his wife, Sandy of Foxboro.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sammi, Maddie, Kaitlin, Shayne, Sarah and Avery.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours Friday, February 6th, 2009 in the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main St. in Walpole from 4-8 p.m.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7th, 2009 at the Union Congregational Church, 55 Rhoades Ave., East Walpole at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be held privately in the spring at Rural Cemetery, Walpole.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Union Congregational Church, 55 Rhoades Ave., East Walpole MA 02032.
