WORCESTER-Irene W. (McGrath) McGuiness, 79, of Worcester, died Sunday, February 1st in Saint Vincent Hospital. She leaves her husband of 55 years, J. Francis McGuiness; son, Brian F. McGuiness and his wife Theresa of Worcester; daughter, Karen M. Galicia and her husband Pedro of Auburn; brother, Kevin McGrath of Worcester; five grandchildren, Jean Paul and his wife Germania, Ashley, Tyler, Kate and Caitlin and two great grandchildren, Kony and Cole. She also leaves many nephews and nieces including Nancy and James McGrath. A brother James McGrath predeceased her.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of James and Irene (McElligot) McGrath and graduated from Commerce High School. Irene worked for the Tom Sullivan & John Woods Insurance Agency for many years, retiring in 1986. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, enjoyed ceramics and loved having breakfast with her friends at Culpeppers. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and especially loved being “Mimi” to her wonderful grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 5 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St. with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge Street. Entombment will follow in Saint John’s Mausoleum. Visiting hours are Wednesday, February 4 from 4-7 PM in the funeral home.
