WEBSTER – John W. “Jas” Grzyb, Jr., 80, of Lower Gore Road, died Sunday, February 1, in Saint Vincent Hospital in the presence of his family.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Merilyn F. (Dumond) Grzyb; six children, Karen A. Grzyb of Ames, Iowa, Carol A. Cooke of Dudley, John A. “Jack” Grzyb, Janice M. Daniels and her husband Gregory R., all of Webster; Robert W. Grzyb and his fiancee Sheryl A. Sadowsky and Andrew N. Grzyb, all of Dudley; a sister, Alice Patrowicz and her husband Edward of Dudley; 12 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was born in Dudley, the son of John W. Grzyb, Sr. and Cecelia (Stawasz) Grzyb, and lived in Dudley and Webster all his life. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School in 1949.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Grzyb retired in 1992 as senior technician and lab instructor in the mechanical engineering department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, where he had worked for 39 years. He was an honorary member of the Skull and Scroll Society at WPI.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He belonged to and was past commander of the Polish American Veterans Post and was a member of the Webster-Dudley American Legion Post #184. He enjoyed fishing, walking on the golf course with his son Andrew, and building model airplanes.
The funeral will be held Thursday, February 5, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors at the funeral.
