Joseph L. Lydon, 82, of Franklin, died, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the Metro West Medical Center in Framingham. He was the husband of Margaret (Robillard) Lydon who died in 2001.
Born in Roxbury on October 31, 1926, he was a son of the late Timothy and Gertrude (Cohen) Lydon. A resident of Franklin for the past 8 years, he formerly resided in Dorchester.
Mr. Lydon was a graduate of Boston English High School. He was an Army veteran of WWII, attained the rank of Private First Class and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
Mr. Lydon worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard for 20 years. After retirement, he was a currier at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester for 10 years.
Mr. Lydon was an active member of the YMCA in Franklin where he swam daily. He also enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by; three sons, Christopher Lydon of Weymouth, Gregory Lydon of Franklin and Andrew Lydon of Snow Mass, CO, a daughter, Corinne Johnson of Germany, a sister, Gertrude Cantwell of Walpole and a brother, Paul Lydon of West Roxbury.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, one great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Joseph Lydon and brother of the late Stephen Lydon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday, February 6 at 8:15 a.m. from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St., followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m.
