Bessie Lucille Smith, 76, Clarksville, died Friday, January 30, 2009, at her residence. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Rev. John Hester and Rev. Harriett Bryant Harris officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 12 p.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born December 31, 1932 in Shiloh, TN, daughter of the late Clarence Ellis and Laura Harris Ellis. She was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church. Ms.Smith was retired from Cumberland Wholesale where she worked as a sales clerk. Survivors include sons, Harold Etling (Merry), Clarksville; and Bobby Hughes (Julie), Joelton; daughters Debbie Byard (Dwayne), Clarksville; and Sherrie Hughes (Alan), Cocoa, FL; two sisters, Ruth Rawlings and Josephine Williams; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her longtime friend of twenty-five years, Bill Fields. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
