Louise Elizabeth “Betty” (Perkins) Stebbins, 84, a resident of Winchester for over 51 years, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Jan. 28, 2009. Born in Augusta, ME, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Doris (Cook) Perkins. Betty was raised and educated in Augusta, graduating from Cony High School with the class of 1942. She then attended the University of Maine at Orono, a family tradition begun by her father. It was there that she met her future husband, Charles D. Stebbins. A homemaker, she and her husband, residents of Winchester since 1958, raised their three children in Winchester and enjoyed spending summers together in Phippsburg, ME. In Winchester, Betty was a member of the First Congregational Church and for many years was a member of the EnKa Society, Winchester’s oldest women’s service organization. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Donald Stebbins, and the loving mother of Martha S. Burnham of Kingston, NH, Bruce H. Stebbins of Hadley, MA and Emily S. Carbonetti of Albany, VT. Betty was the dear sister of Margaret “Peggy” Davis of Augusta, ME and the late Elaine “Punky”Fogler, and is further survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in the First Congregational Church, 21 Church St. (on the Common), Winchester on Sat. March 28th at 11AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
