GLOUCESTER: Frank T. Mantia, 88, of 59 Eastern Point Road died January 21, 2009 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Mildred R. (Neville) Mantia, who died in November of 2001.
Born in Boston on January 2, 1921, he was the son of the late Rosario and Mary (Comella) Mantia. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been a resident of Gloucester since the 1950’s.
Frank was an innkeeper, having owned and operated the Hawthorne Inn in East Gloucester for many years.
He is survived by three stepsons, Larrie Ward of Naples, FL, who has been his chief (live-in) caregiver for the past three years, Terry, husband of Dorothy Ward of Brampton, Ontario, Danny, husband of Nancy Noble of Bedford, N.S., three stepdaughters, Elizabeth Rowe and her companion, John Saunders of Middleton, N.S., Betty, wife of Russell Otto of Eau Claire, WS and Margie Walker of Brampton, Ontario. He is also survived by a niece, Carol M. Mantia and his sister-in-law, Barbara G. Mantia True both of Naples, FL as well as many dear friends including, Harry and Susan Cusick of Gloucester and their family. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Augustus, Charles and Joseph Mantia, and his sister, Beatrice Clark.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral services.
