Mary P. (Preston) Smith of North Hill Needham died on Jan 26, 2009 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. She was 92.
Born in Chiengmai, Siam, now known as Thailand, she had been a resident of Needham since 1941. She was a longtime active member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Needham having served as director of Christian Education. She was an avid gardener, bridge player and had been very active with the Girl Scouts. She was a resident of North Hill in Needham for the past 19 years where she was active with the arts and hospitality committees, had sung in the chorus and had enjoyed several trips. She was also a ticketholder at the Boston Symphony for over 40 years and had enjoyed summer concerts at Tanglewood.
Wife of the late Myron E. “Mike” Smith, she is survived by her daughters Myra Lou Denton and her husband Rick of Ipswich, Libbie Smith of Tucson AZ and Carol Hartigan and her husband John of Needham, her grandchildren Rob and Chad Denton and her sister Myra Hoogendam of Las Vegas NV.
A memorial service will be held on Thurs Feb 5 at 11 AM in Christ Episcopal Church 1132 Highland Ave. NEEDHAM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
