Daniel D. Darling, 76, of Medway died unexpectedly on Friday January 23, 2009 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was the beloved husband of Helen A. (Urban) Darling.
Born in Milford, MA on October 15, 1932 he was a dear son of the late Jesse L. and Eva B. (Symmes) Darling.
As a young boy he lived in Franklin till later when his family moved to Medfield. He was a graduate of Medfield High School where he was a stand out athlete lettering in Basketball, Baseball and Football. He furthered his studies at Dean Academy in Franklin and was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst receiving his undergraduate degree in Business Administration.
During the Korean Conflict he proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on December 20, 1954 with the rank of Private First Class.
Mr. Darling was self-employed and was the owner of New England Temporaries, a company he operated in South Boston prior to retiring. Following retirement he had worked part time at Adesa in Framingham.
An avid sports fan, baseball and boxing being his favorites, his other hobbies included gardening, collecting antique bottles, reading non-fictional literature and solving cross word and Soduko puzzles. His family was the love of his life and he especially cherished the times spent with his grandsons. He had made his home in Medway for the past 45 years.
In addition to his beloved wife Helen he is survived by his devoted children Helen D. Finkelstein and her husband Norm of Mansfield and Daniel J. Darling of South Boston, his cherished grandsons Aaron T. Finkelstein and Matthew H. Finkelstein both of Mansfield. He was the brother of James Darling of Little Compton, Rhode Island, David Darling of Mashpee and the late Leo Alexander Darling, also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend graveside services with military honors on Wednesday January 28th at 11:00 A.M. at the Vine Lake Cemetery, Main St. in Medfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday January 27th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
