John William Carter, 75, of Gaithersburg, MD died on January 17, 2009 at the Baltimore VA Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center (BRECC) in Baltimore. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy Carter (NEE Gilcher) and devoted father of John W. Carter, Jr; Sharon Carter and Sandra Carter. He was born September 16, 1933 and grew up in Washington, DC, at the age of 15 he joined the Army and served in Austria and Korea before returning home in 1953. In his youth John was an all around athlete and played semi-professional baseball. John was a avid Redskins fan and loved painting, building models, country western music, gardening and doing crossword puzzles. In 1963 he married Nancy until her death in 2003.
Family and friend are invited to attend a simple Funeral Service on Monday, February, 2, in the Maryland Veterns Cemetery-Garrison Forest at 1 P.M. The family request donations in his honor to your local American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org)
