Obituary

William D. “Bill” Robitzsch, 86, of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Fitzgerald Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, January 23, 2009 in the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Robitzsch was born December 14, 1922 in Ben Hill County to the late Martin D. and Edna Walsh Robitzsch. He lived in the community most of his life and along with his wife owned and operated Robitzsch Hardware. He was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and attended South Georgia College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald. Mr. Robitzsch was a Master Mason, an avid motorcyclist, aircraft pilot, skydiver, and boat racer. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and gardening. He was named Conservationist of the Year. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II in New Guinea, Japan, and the Phillipines.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law; Nancy & Gary Wilkes of Orange Park, FL; grandson and his wife, Jody & Priscilla Young of Fitzgerald; great grandchildren, Daniel and Karson Young as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Irene H. Robitzsch and 4 sisters.
