Obituary

SALEM - Mary E. (Horton) Morin, 84, wife of the late Joseph F. Morin, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, January 20, 2009.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl E. (Dailey) Horton.

A lifelong resident of the city, she was a graduate of Salem High School and the Salem Business School. She grew up and married in the former Calvary Baptist Church of Salem. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church for many years where she was a founding member of the Women’s Guild in the 1950's. She taught Sunday School for forty years and served on several boards and committees.

Mrs. Morin worked in the offices of Newbury’s, then Almy’s and retired in 1990 from Rich’s Department Store where she worked in the executive offices. She also worked for the Internal Revenue Service for several years.

She loved to sew and do various craft projects, including ceramics and stained glass art. She also was an accomplished cook. She loved vacations taken mostly in the White Mountains where the family camped and climbed mountains. She was especially proud of climbing Mount Washington and other mountains in the Presidential Range. She loved to swim and spent many summers on the beaches at the Willows.

In recent years, as she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, she spent wonderful times at the Spectrum Adult Day Health Program in Beverly, where she had many friends.

Mrs. Morin is survived by one daughter, Joyce R. Morin of Salem and with whom she shared her home, She also leaves a sister, Virginia Barrett, a niece, Susan M Harper, a nephew Frank C. Barrett, Jr. all of North Carolina and one granddaughter, Abigail K. Morin of California, on whom she doted. She is predeceased by a son, Robert L. Morin and a sister, Pearl A. Buckley.

Her funeral service will be held Friday, January 23, 2009 at 10 am in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Visiting hours are Thursday, 4 to 7 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
