Theresa M. (Journeau) Hamel of Andover, formerly of Lawrence, died on Monday, January 19, 2009, at Atria Marland Place in Andover surrounded by her loving family. Theresa (Terry) was the beloved wife of the late Maurice R. Hamel, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage,
Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on September 16, 1927, Terry was the daughter of the late Frederick and Eva (Gauthier) Journeau. She was a long time communicant of the Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence and most recently of St. Augustine Church in Andover.
She will be sorely missed by her daughter, JoAnn Nolan and her husband, James, of Westford, daughter, Linda Hamel of Newburyport, son, John Hamel and his wife, Susan, of Hampton, New Hampshire, and son, Mark Hamel of Newburyport. She leaves five cherished grandchildren, Derek and his wife Mitzi Nolan, Brett and his wife Sherry Nolan, Kyle Nolan, Allison Hamel and Joseph Hamel; four great-grandchildren, Haley, Caroline, Evan, and Emily Nolan; sister Marcelle Zarzour and her husband William, and brother-in-law, Gerard Demers. Theresa was also the loving sister of the late Jeanette Journeau, Cecile Demers, Gerard Journeau and Rene Journeau.
Nicknamed “Sunshine” for her sweet disposition, the love she shared will live on in the hearts of her family, friends and the many people whose lives she touched.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, Friday, January 23, 2009, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Calling hours were held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, Thursday, January 22, 2009, from 3 to 8 PM. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Andover.
