Elaine Sullivan passed away on January 17 at the Lawrence General Hospital after an extended illness. She was active and giving as both a professional and volunteer in the wider Lawrence community. She worked at the German Home and volunteered at the Greater Lawrence Archives. She also served as a tutor at the Parthum School, as a lector at the Corpus Christi Church and Sacred Heart, and as a member of the over 55 group.
Ms. Sullivan was a registered dietician. She graduated from Girls' Latin School and Framingham State Teachers College, and continued graduate study at the University of Minnesota. She completed her internship in Cincinatti, Ohio. For a few years she also served in the National Guard and taught adolescents with autism in a recreational program.
On her return from Ohio, she worked as a dietician in Boston hospitals before moving back to Lawrence where her parents lived. She then taught at Essex Agricultural School and worked with low income families as part of its Extension program. She also taught at the Greater Lawrence Vocational School. Upon her retirement she continued her service to the community, working with Meals on Wheels and becoming active in the Linus Blanket Club.
Ms. Sullivan is the daughter of the late Timothy Paul and Lillian Hildebrandt Sullivan, and the sister of the late Paul Sullivan. She leaves behind her cousin Charlene Williams and her partner Marion Montgomery, her nieces Christine Sullivan and Nancy Bower, and a nephew, Sean Sullivan.
Her kind and generous spirit will be missed by all.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 at 11:00AM at Corpus Christi Church (also known as Holy Rosary Church) in Lawrence. A burial will follow in the Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
