Mildred Wood Harmon, 92, passed away in Dixie, LA, where she lived for the past 3 years. She was born to the late Clint and Irene King Wood in Water Valley, MS. She and her husband of 69 years, Frank Leon Harmon, were former residents of Water Valley, MS for 30 years. She graduated - with a BS from the Business School of Commerce at the University of Mississippi and earned an additional 60 hours of college credit from the University of Arkansas and the University of Louisiana at Monroe, LA. She was an educator for 30 years; teaching for 9 years in Arkansas, 2 years in Mississippi and 19 years in Monroe, LA (2 years at Clara Hall School and 17 years at Sallie Humble Elementary School – both are Monroe City Schools). She was a member of the Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA and former member of the First Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS. She also was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, American Association University Women, American Contract Bridge League, ADK Teachers Sorority, and the Water Valley Garden Club.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Dr. Randy Bain presiding. Burial will take place in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Water Valley, MS with Michael Daniels, Alex Daniels, Jonathon Harmon, Kenneth Baxter, Mark Bissell, Guy Bumpas, and Mark Bonds serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. Harmon is survived by two daughters, Camilla Harmon Baxter of Collierville, TN and Eleanor Daniels Hilsenrath of Fairfield Bay, AR; a son, Dr. Frank Wood Harmon of Dixie, LA; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth Baxter, Lesley Baxter Bonds, Kenneth Baxter, Dr. Michael Daniels, Paul Daniels, Alex Daniels, Holly Harmon Bissell, Hayley Harmon Bumpas, Jonathon Harmon and Kendall Harmon; and seven great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Harmon was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Leon Harmon (September 15, 2007) and one sister, Elsie Wood McKinney.
