LaVerte Marchant, 89, of Chula died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Jimmy Odum and Rev. Robert Thompson will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Great-nephews: Bennie Branch, Gary Branch, Kirk Law, Jeremy Law, Chip Pate, Allen Pate, Caleb Marchant and Kyle Goodman will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Marchant was born on March 15, 1919 in Tift County and was the daughter of John Henry Marchant and Mattie Lee Massey Marchant, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Henry Lee Marchant. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Her life was devoted to her church, her family, including six nieces and nephews, 18 great-nieces and nephews, several great great nieces and nephews and she was associated with the Clean Community Commission, the American Heart Association, the Georgia Agrirama; and the Atlantic Coastline Artist Guild. She was a lifetime resident of Tift County.
Ms. Marchant is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Edmund Dumas and one sister-in-law, Doris Marchant; as well as her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
