Dessa Daniels Hawes, 94, of Ocilla, died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at her home.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County with the Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7 until 9 at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Hawes was born June 25, 1914 in Ocilla to the late Aaron and Matilda Giddens Daniels. She was the retired owner and operator of the Red and White Grocery in Ocilla. Having lived in Jacksonville, FL and Brunswick, GA, she was a former telephone operator for General Telephone. Mrs. Hawes was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hawes is survived by her children: Dr. Roger C. (Lynn) Hawes of Snellville, GA, Sherry (Gene) Smith of Blackshear, GA and Joe Merwyn (Betty) Hawes of Ocilla; Sister: Lila Jensen of Orange Park, FL; 8 Grandchildren, 18 Great-grandchildren and 3 Great-great grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Russell B. Hawes and Brother, Henry C. Daniels.
