Julius Gomes, 87, of New Bedford died Saturday May 17, 2003 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Flora (Andrade) Gomes.
Born in Dartmouth, the son of the late Julius and Katie (Pina) Gomes, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Gomes was formerly employed as a machine operator at Chamberlain Manufacturing Company until his retirement.
He enjoyed fishing and sports, especially the Boston Red Sox.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Gomes and his wife Bonnie of North Dartmouth; a daughter, Dianne Lopes and her husband Robert of New Bedford; a sister, Angelina Barboza of Boston; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late August Gomes, Laura Gomes, Alice Gomes, and Tillie DeCarmo.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday May 20, 2003 from 4-7 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
