Gertrude T. Redmond, 76
Gertrude Theresa Redmond, 76, died Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Lawrence General Hospital.
She was born on January 25, 1932, in Lawrence, daughter of the late Nora T. (Walsh) and Edward J. Redmond.
She graduated from St. John’s Nursing School, Lowell, MA. In 1952; then received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1965 from Boston College; followed by her Master’s Degree in 1967 and her Doctorate in Education in 1988 both from Boston College.
She put her education to good use beginning with a nursing position at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Bedford, MA. She then taught in the nursing program at Boston College where she co-authored a nursing text entitled Concepts and Case Studies in Nursing published in 1983. She later taught in the nursing program at Bunker Hill Community College, and finished her career in education working in the guidance department at Methuen High School where she retired in 1997.
Trudy enjoyed reading, sewing, and doll collecting, and spending time with family members. She spent many enjoyable days walking the beaches of North Hampton. She enjoyed art and looked forward to meeting friends at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. The church was especially important to her.
She served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Theresa’s Church and spent many hours discussing scripture with a Carmelite community.
Her survivors include her brother, Edward M. Redmond and his wife Paulette of Salem; nephews Edward P. Redmond and his wife Kathleen of Salem, Christopher M. Redmond and his wife Pilar of Newmarket, NH; Michael N. Redmond of Salem; and niece Elizabeth A. Stacy and her husband Jeff of Portsmouth, NH. As well as six grand nephews and nieces, Connor, Shealyn, Mackenzie, Trevor, Abigail, and Magnolia.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 at 9:00AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish St. Theresa Church at 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen, MA. A burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
