Svendsen, Alice, in her 99th year, died peacefully Jan. 15, 2009 at Emeritus-Brighton Gardens, Dedham, MA. Beloved wife of the late Harold Svendsen of Needham, where she had been a resident for 60 years. Born in Boston on July 4th, the Needham 4th of July Parade held a special place of honor in the hearts of the family. Seated in her place of honor at the corner of Webster and Holland Streets, she would be serenaded to “Happy Birthday” by one of the parades musical groups.
Alice was a lifelong member of the Congregational Church of Needham and active in the Friendly Society. She was also a volunteer for many years for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, the Glover Hospital Memorial Coffee Shop(when a Gloverburger was $1.50) and with Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her loving children, David Svendsen and his wife Guna of Newton, Judith Benson and her husband Peter of Cape Elizabeth, ME, and Paul Svendsen and his wife Suzanne of Bangor, ME; her grandchildren, Sasha Svendsen, William, David and the late Douglas Benson, Laura and Eric Svendsen: as well as her great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Graveside services for the family will be held in the Spring.
