Obituary

Ernest L. Colageo - Age 81, of Dedham formerly of Hyde Park, January 11, 2009. Beloved husband of Lois W. (Wills) Colageo. Devoted father of Louis A. Colageo and his wife Roberta of Hull, James E. Colageo of Marion, David M. Colageo and his wife Darlene of Taunton and Lorna G. Colageo of Martha’s Vineyard. “Poppy” to Brooke Wire and Danielle, Lindsay and Chelsea Colageo. Brother of Pio Colageo of Rotonda, FL, Jessie Carchedi of Norwood and the late Jennie Anusewicz and Louis A. Colageo. Son of the late Nazzareno and Carmela (Garzia) Colageo.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, Tuesday at 8 AM. Funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM.

Interment Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.

Ernie Colageo was born on Christmas day 1927 in Hyde Park, MA of Italian immigrant parents. At the age of 18, he put on a U.S. Marine Corps uniform and served overseas at the end of WW II. He was called again to active duty in 1950 for the Korean Conflict, after which he returned home and married Lois Wills in 1952. He worked as a machinist at Allis-Chalmers in Hyde Park while attending night school at Northeastern University. He graduated with degrees in Engineering and Business. He continued his 30 year career at Allis-Chalmers where he was promoted to Superintendent of Shops. Ernie also taught Machine Design at Wentworth Institute night school. He became a well known figure in the Dedham Little League, held the office of President and managed teams while his 3 sons were playing baseball. Later in his career, Ernie worked at Masoneilan, Norwood and Avon plants as General Manager and then did some consulting with various firms such as Temple, Barker & Sloan and ETI Inc., Foxboro. After retiring as a Professional Engineer, Ernie enjoyed his cottage on Cape Cod with his family, playing golf and cultivating his tomato plants.
