Obituary

Patrick J. Carney, 22 of Franklin died January 15 in Brigham & Women’s Hospital Boston after a short battle with cancer. He was the son of Joseph and Kim (Wilcke) Carney of Franklin.
Born in Worcester, May 18, 1986, Patrick was a lifelong Franklin resident.
Patrick was a 2004 graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood and had graduated from Providence College this past Spring with a degree in Business Management. He had just begun working at the YMCA headquarters in Providence when he was diagnosed with cancer.
At Xaverian, Patrick was a member of the National Honor Society and played on the Varsity Tennis team.
Patrick was well known in his community for playing sports as well as sharing his talent and enthusiasm with the youth in his area as a volunteer coach.
He received the State Community Service Award from the Leo Club for volunteering over 100 hours helping others. Patrick enjoyed tennis, snow skiing, snow mobiling and was an enthusiastic fan of the Boston professional sports teams.
His battle with cancer was fought with periods of relative wellness so that he, his friends and family could enjoy time together.
Please take a moment to appreciate the people in your lives, be grateful for the health of your children and family, and say a prayer of comfort for Joe, Kim, Patrick, Andrew and Samantha.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Andrew, a senior at Xaverian and his sister, Samantha, a senior at Franklin High School.
He is also survived by his grandparents, Joseph and Stacia (Adamczyk) Carney of East Longmeadow, Mass., his uncle, Ralph Wilcke of Turks and Caicos, John Carney of Providence, RI, aunts, Marianne McCauley of East Longmeadow and Patricia McCormick of Waxhaw, NC.
He was the grandson of the late Jack and Roberta Wilcke.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 20 from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St. in Franklin at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
