WORCESTER-Francis J. Murphy, Jr., 82, of Worcester, died Wednesday January 14th in UMass Memorial Hospital. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Barbara A. (Mahoney) Murphy; his children, Martha, Barbara, Fran, Mike, Julie, Tom, Jim, Dan, Therese, Pat, Mag, Liz and Joe; a sister, Margaret of Florida; 40 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a daughter, Martha; two brothers, William and John and a sister, Mary Donoughue.
Mr. Murphy was born in Lowell, the son of Francis J. Murphy, Sr. and Mildred (Allen) Murphy. Francis was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on the Pacific Fleet during WWII. In 1984, Francis retired from the United States Post Office where he was a letter carrier for 28 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church and of the NALC Branch 12. Mr. Murphy was a great father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.
The funeral is Monday, January 19th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Sunday, January 18th from 2:00 until 5:00 PM in the funeral home.
