Mary A. (Cassidy) Getchell, 80, of Franklin died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at her home, following a long illness. She was the wife of Warren E. Getchell, who died in 1978.
Born in Boston 3, 1928, a daughter of the late William and Elfreada (Newell) Cassidy, she lived in Franklin since 1960. She was raised and educated in Sherborn and was a 1948 graduate of Sawin Academy in Sherborn.
Mrs. Getchell was a retired ward attendant who worked at the former Medfield State Hospital and at Wrentham State School.
She enjoyed time spent with family, playing bingo and travel.
She is survived by four sons, William O. Getchell and his wife, Lorraine, of Norfolk, James W., Michael A. and Paul D. Getchell and his wife, Linda, all of Franklin; six daughters, Joanne Eastwood, Betty Shurman, Jackie Bartelloni and her husband, Gene, Diane McGann and her husband, Franklin Town Councillor Joseph, Marsha Getchell and her fiance, Lary Lovett, and Cheryl Vendetti and her husband, Michael, all of Franklin; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late John J. Getchell and sister of the late John and Billy Cassidy, Patsy Farrell and Kitty O'Donnell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Saturday, at 8:15 a.m., from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., www.franklinfuneral.com, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, at 9 a.m.
Interment will follow in the family lot in Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield. Calling hours are Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m.
