OBITUARY
Leominster
Ernest Joseph Demers, 83, of Leominster, died Thursday January 8, at the
Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury.
Ernest was born in So. Ashburnham, January 17, 1925, the son of Ernest J.
Sr. and Nina (Jacques) Demers. He graduated from St. Stephens High
School in Worcester in 1942. He was a long time T.V. Technician,
salesman and business man and owned and operated his own T.V. repair
business. He then was a carrier-clerk for the U.S. Post Office in Leominster
for 14 years. He retired March 29, 1997.
Ernest was an Army veteran of WW ll and was a combat medic with the
Medical Detachment Company Unit 1134. He served in the Rhineland,
Ardennes and Central Europe. He was captured during the battle of the
Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, P.O.W. Medal
European African Medal, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WW ll Victory
Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also awarded the Expert
Infantryman's badge, the Expert Combat Medical badge, and Honorable
Service WW ll lapel button.
Ernest loved to work in electronics, he enjoyed football and basketball in
his later years and was a very knowledgeable herbalist.
Ernest is survived by his sons, Paul Doyen of Fitchburg, David Demers, of
Worcester, Kevin Demers of Florida, John Demers of Leominster and Paul
Demers of California. His daughters Michelle Rondeau and Veronica
Whitson both of Worcester, Lisa Renshaw of Rutland and Sheila Fulginiti
of Boston. His brothers Donald Demers of Marlboro and Edward Demers of
Florida. His sisters Shirley Demers and Irene Halladay both of California.
Many grandchildren and great grand children; nieces and nephews.
Ernest's wife of 38 years, Sally E. (Young) Demers died October 21, 2008.
His brother Robert Demers and his sister Eleanor Kapelos died before him.
A funeral service will be held on Friday January 16, at 11:00 A. M. in the
Bosk Funeral Home 85 Blossom St. Fitchburg. Burial with military honors
will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday
morning from 9 to 11 A.M.
