GLOUCESTER: Alice H. (Haley) Schultz, 88, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 in the Beverly Hospital following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Stephen H. Schultz who died in September 2008. They shared sixty-one years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on July 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin C. and Gladys (Doucete) Haley. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, she was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1939.
Alice was employed as a bookkeeper at the former W. G. Brown Department Store on Main Street for over thirty years and at the Building Center for several years before her retirement.
She was a member of the Seashore Rebeccah Lodge, the Gloucester Women’s Club, the Cape Ann Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a seventy year member of the Degree of Pocahontas. She was also an active member of the Trinity Congregational Church. In addition to her lifelong commitment to her family, church and community, Alice loved the time spent at her camp at Lake Annabessacook in Maine. She also enjoyed crafts and decorating her home and camp.
She is survived by her son, Stephen P. Schultz of Derry, NH and two cousins, Pamela and her husband, Michael Hickey of Nashua, NH and Timothy and his wife, Patty Irving of Boca Raton, FL and their families. She was also predeceased by her son, William H. Schultz, a brother, Benjamin C. Haley, Jr. and two brothers-in-law, Cyril Schultz and Vernon and his wife, Dorothy Schultz.
Her funeral services will be held on Thursday in the Trinity Congregational Church, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Trinity Congregational Church, 70 Middle St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
