Maureen E. Shanahan, 69, of Abington died Sunday January 11th in the South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. She was the daughter of the late John F. and Maude (Burbine) Shanahan. Maureen was born in Weymouth, brought up in Abington, where she has resided all her life. She was a graduate of Abington High School and earned her master’s degree in teaching at Bridgewater State College. Maureen retired from the Avon Public Schools, after more than 30 years of teaching; she also was a coach for girl’s sports in Avon. She was a member of the St. Bridget Church of Abington .Maureen loved to play golf.
She is survived by her sisters; Judith Hodgkins of Rockland, Kathleen Forrand of East Bridgewater, her brother Robert Shanahan of Whitman; also several nieces and nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.She was also the sister of the late John F. Shanahan, Jr.
Her services will be held Wednesday January 14th at 8:15AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00 AM in the St Bridget Church, Abington, MA. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman, MA. Visitation will be held Tuesday January 13th from 4-7.Donation may be made in her name to the Mutual Bank , C/O Maureen E.
