Wendell E. LaKing, a resident of East Boston and former 25 year resident of Charlestown, died on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at his home in East Boston following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 55 years old.
Wendell was born in Boston and grew up in Canada where he attended grade school and graduated high school. He worked for General Dynamics for 20 years before working for Payne Engineering Corporation in Canton for the last 10 years.
Wendell is the beloved husband of 31 years to Catherine "Cathy" (Scadding) LaKing. He is the devoted father of Wendell E. LaKing Jr., Michael E. LaKing, Barry J. LaKing, James P. LaKing and Patrick Russell. He is the beloved brother of Thomas Wark, Edward LaKing, Donald LaKing and the late Shirley Burnham and Raymond Wark.
Wendell's Funeral will be held on Monday, January 12, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 11, 2009, from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
