WEBSTER - Lena T. “Nellie” (Sabaj) Swierzbin, 97, of 35 Brodeur Avenue, died Friday, January 9, in Webster Manor. Her husband of 34 years, Joseph J. Swierzbin, died in 1970.
She leaves a daughter, Carolyn Swierzbin and a son, John Swierzbin, both of Webster; three sisters, Helen Kralik and Dorothy Szymczak, both of Webster and Rita Kubik of Dudley; a brother, Frank Sabaj of Webster; a grandson, Stephen Swierzbin of Woodstock; two great granddaughters; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Stasia Sabaj and Josephine Tadla, and by 3 brothers, Charles, Henry and Bernard Sabaj.
She was born in Webster, the oldest of the 10 children of Felix and Veronica L. (Mrzyglod) Sabaj, and was a lifelong resident.
Mrs. Swierzbin was a weaver at Cluett-Peabody in North Grosvenordale, CT and then was an assembler at Webster Spring Company before she retired.
She was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica, its Holy Rosary Sodality and Sacred Heart Society. She was a devoted Boston Red Sox Fan. Her greatest interest was her family.
The funeral will be held Monday, January 12, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. A calling period will be from 8:15 to 9:15 AM Monday in the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to the Friends of St. Joseph School Fund, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570.
