Gertrude E. (McMahan) Hannagan, 91, of Lawrence, died Thursday morning, January 8, 2009, at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital, Methuen.
Mrs. Hannagan was born in Lawrence on June 2, 1917, daughter of the late John and Anna (Street) McMahan of Ireland. She was raised in Lawrence and was educated at St. Patrick Elementary School, and a graduate of St. Patrick High School, Lawrence.
Mrs. Hannagan was employed by Raytheon Co., of Andover as a Machine Operator for over 25 years. Her work included projects on the Hawk and Sparrow Missile Programs.
After retirement, she enjoyed traveling throughout this Country and abroad with friends. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, baking, but most importantly, cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She has been living with her son Jack and his wife Janice for several years in Lawrence.
Wife for over 50 years to the late William A. Hannagan, who died January 6, 1988.
Her surviving family members include her son, John “Jack” A. Hannagan and his wife Janice M. of Lawrence; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; mother of the late Patricia A. Clavette.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, January 12, 2009, beginning in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 No. Main Street, Andover at 8:00 AM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Patrick Parish, 118 So. Broadway, Lawrence at 9:00 AM. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Corbett Street, Andover.
Calling hours were Sunday afternoon in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 No. Main Street, Andover from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Relatives and friends were kindly invited.
