Mr. Alfred J. “Big Al” Corriera, of this city, died Wednesday, January 7 in Morton
Hospital following a period of failing health. He was born 81 years ago in Taunton,
the son of the late John and Maryanna (Augusta) Corriera. He was educated in Taun-
ton and was a lifelong city resident. Mr. Corriera also received his G.E.D. while he
served in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a silver-
smith for the former Sheridan Silver Co. and F.B. Rogers Silver Co., both of Taunton,
for a number of years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II,
the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1982, retiring
after 33 years, having attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He awarded the Purple
Heart for wounds received in action in both Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Corriera was a
Life Member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the David F.Adams Post #611
Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, both the 1st and 2nd Infantry
Divisions, and the U.S. Army Rangers.
He leaves:
2 sons: Alfred J. Corriera, Jr. of Elgin, Texas
Bryan K. Corriera of Baltimore, Md.
1 daughter: Carolyn Corriera of Nutley, N.J.
A niece: Louise Bucciero of Taunton
several other nieces and nephews
Mr. Corriera was also the brother of the late John Corriera and the late Ernest Corriera.
A Visitation will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street on
Saturday, January 10, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Interment will be private at the conven-
ience of the family.
