Obituary

WORCESTER-Joel Isaac McNamara, 29, of Worcester, died Tuesday, January 6th in his home.
He leaves his parents, Sean P. McNamara of Dudley, and Kathleen M. (Cleary) McNamara of Worcester; three brothers, James D. McNamara and his girlfriend Heather Williams of Webster, Nicholas J. McNamara and his girlfriend Dana Knight of Worcester, and Philip T. McNamara and his wife, Sheena of Maynard; a sister, Therese A. McNamara of Worcester; his paternal grandparents, John H. and Jacqueline McNamara of Worcester; his maternal grandfather, Thomas Cleary of Dudley; three nephews, Nick and Aiden McNamara and Christian Gemme; a niece, Gaia Knight; twenty two aunts and uncles; thirty three cousins including Bonnie Barrett, with whom he lived; and countless friends whom Joel truly considered his extended family including his friends Mark and Kenny Casey. His maternal grandmother, Alice Cleary and a cousin, Liam McNamara predeceased him.
He was born in Ware and was a graduate of Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley. He worked various construction jobs and for the past ten years worked for Casey Remodeling. Also, he was a personal assistant and “go to guy” for his brother Nick.
Joel enjoyed the beach, fishing with family and friends and was a talented artist. He did not drink alcohol, but he enjoyed going to clubs, parties, and summer concerts.
Joel will be greatly missed by many people. He was a person of exceptional character; he was generous with his kindness, time, and possessions. In a time of need, a friend or relative, could call Joel, and he would be there to help, usually with his big red van. His character was revealed in how well he treated people. He was the type of guy that you would want to introduce to your family and friends. Joe was one of those people who could make you feel better regardless of your circumstances.
Joel has formed many meaningful relationships, and his passing will be difficult for many. There are many nicknames that he acquired in his life, from having so many close friends; among others, he was known as Beauf, Hood,and Joey Mac. He adored kids and they adored him. He was fun to be with, and he could make anyone laugh and smile. He was an exceptional son, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend. Most of all, Joel was a loving, respectable human being. He has left many behind that will truly miss him in their lives.
The funeral is Saturday, January 10th with a service at 10:00 AM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Friday, January 9th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Family Health Center, 26 Queen Street, Worcester, MA 01610.
