Rita I. (Benevides) Swift 71 of Halifax formerly of East Bridgewater died Sunday January 4th. She was the beloved wife of Allen Swift.
Born in Avon she was the daughter of the late John and Edith (Raymond) Benevides. She was raised in Middleboro and attended Middleboro schools.
She was a certified nurse’s aid and was employed at the Quincy Adams Nursing Home for 15 years before her retirement in 1993.
She was a resident of East Bridgewater for thirty-eight years prior to her move to Halifax two years ago. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 163 of Warwick, RI.
She enjoyed traveling to Maine where she loved to camp. However her greatest enjoyment came from the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughter Pamela Swift of East Bridgewater, her son Ronald Swift, her brothers William Nickerson and John Benevides both of Florida, her sister Alice Bronough of Alabama, her grandchildren Cory Johnson and Jessica Gabourel. She was the sister of the late Frederick Nickerson, Lita Mattatal, Roberta Berkey and Rhoda Silva.
Her services will be held Friday January 9th at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Thursday January 8th from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to the Old Colony Hospice One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
