Mrs. Dorothy Rodgers Searson, 89, of Meggett, SC, entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 5, 2009 at Sandpiper Nursing Home, Mt. Pleasant.
She was the widow of William Bagot Searson, Jr. and the daughter of the late James Rufus Rodgers and the late Gladys Moorer Rodgers of Ravenel. She was born in Ravenel, SC on March 31, 1919.
Mrs. Searson graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1935 and attended Columbia College. She began her teaching career in 1946 at Ravenel Elementary School, then Meggett Elementary School, R.D. Schroder Middle School in Hollywood, Spann Elementary school in Summerville and, finally, at St. Paul’s Parish Academy in Adams Run where she retired in 1980.
She was extremely active in the work of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Meggett, SC. She taught Sunday school for 25 years, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary (E.C.W.) and Altar Guild. She served as a delegate on numerous occasions to the Diocesan and National General Church Conventions.
Mrs. Searson is survived by her son, William B. Searson, III, and his wife, Llewellyn of James Island, SC; four grandchildren, Andrea L. Searson, Hope S. Picquet (LaMotte), William B. Searson, IV (Sherry), and Tracy L. Searson; 6 great grandchildren, Travis Picquet, Morgan Picquet, Parrish Clontz, Dylan Searson, Kole Searson and Caroline Searson; one sister, Esther Ann Chaplin of Rantowles, SC, one brother, James R. Rodgers of Ravenel, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters; Lillian R. Baldwin and Virginia R. Welch.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 11 o’clock at Christ-St.Paul’s Episcopal Church in Hollywood. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock.
