Obituary

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA: Doris A. (Calder) Burgess, 82, died early Saturday morning in the Beverly Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Edward A. Burgess who died in July 1993.
Born on Campobello, New Brunswick, Canada December 27, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Agnes (Mitchell) Calder. She resided on Campobello for many years before moving to Manchester in 1945.
Doris enjoyed playing bingo with her many friends and especially enjoyed knitting for her family, friends and the needy. She loved to walk and listen to music and was the number one fan of all her grandchildren’s activities. She was also a huge Boston Red Sox fan.
She was the loving mother of Doris M. Burgess of Wolfeboro, NH, Doreen Lisa and her husband, Joseph Kolodziej of Danvers, Richard E. and his wife, Beth Burgess and Jeffrey A. and his wife, Nancy Burgess all of Manchester-by-the-Sea. She was predeceased by her baby daughter, Lisa Agnes Burgess. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Stephen and his wife, Debbie Smith and Mark and his wife, Shannon Smith all of Ipswich, Meghan (Burgess) and her husband, Nick Braley of Dover, NH and Heidi and Heather Burgess both of Manchester-by-the-Sea, six great-grandchildren, Jamie, Breanna and Ryan Smith and Trevor-Max, Hunter and Keegan Smith, a brother, Maxwell Calder of Campobello, New Brunswick, two sisters, Gertrude Lank of St. John, New Brunswick and Genevieve and her husband, Donald Smith of Woodland, Maine and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by five sisters, Lillian Calder, Bessie Corey, Beatrice Parker, Ruth Calder and Mary Burgess and three brothers, Bertram, Reginald and Gerald Calder.
Her graveside services will be held Saturday, January 10th in the Rosedale Cemetery, Manchester-by-the-Sea at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
