Daniel D. "Dan" Sullivan, 71, a longtime employee of the Telegram & Gazette, died Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home.
He leaves three sisters, Edla S. and her husband, Richard Butterworth of South Orleans; Ann D. and her husband, Edward Geishecker of Natick; and Carol E. Knee of California; seven nephews; two nieces; four grandnephews; and two grandnieces.
He was born in Worcester, son of Timothy D. and Mabel H. (Skog) Sullivan.
Dan graduated from North High School (Class of 1955) and Worcester Junior College (Class of 1957). He was an Army veteran, serving with the Army Security Agency (1955-57). Dan was a marketing specialist at the Telegram & Gazette. He was the longest-serving editor of "The Gossiper," the Telegram & Gazette inhouse newspaper. He was honored in October for 50 years of combined employment and consulting service.
"Dan was an incredible goodwill ambassador for the Telegram & Gazette for 50 years. He loved his newspaper and his community and worked tirelessly to promote them both. He will be greatly missed by many," said Publisher Bruce Gaultney.
Dan served several terms on the Worcester Parks Commission in the 1980s and 1990s. He was a longtime, active member of All Saints Episcopal Church.
Dan was active in many civic organizations, including the Bohemian Club. He was also an usher for many years at Holy Cross basketball games.
The family wishes to thank everyone at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home for their care and compassion.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan 8, 2009, in All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving Street.
Calling hours: 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 7, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street.
Burial will be private in St. John’s Cemetery.
