Obituary

John S. Langone, 80 of Derry, NH died Sunday morning January 4, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Langone was born in Boston, MA on October 3, 1928, son of the late John and Eleanora (DeChristoforo) Langone. He had been a resident of Derry since 1970, formerly living in Woburn, MA. He was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School, Malden, MA and later received his BA in Economics from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA. He served with the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Langone retired from Disogrin Industries in Manchester, NH and was self-employed in sales for many years.
He was active in the Derry Economic Development Committee, Nutfield Housing Development Authority, and the Advisory Board of the Marion Gerrish Community Center in Derry. He was a former State Representative with the New Hampshire General Court and a former member of Derry Housing and Redevelopment Authority, and the Nutfield Senior Center. In addition, Mr. Langone had served on the Derry Town Budget Committee, Derry School Board and School Fiscal Advisory Committee, Derry Strategic Planning Group, and the Derry Main Street Program.
He had a quick wit and great sense of humor and enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He had a passion for traveling and a taste for Italian cuisine.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Clark) Langone of Derry, his children, Mary Langone Barden and her husband Kevin of Derry; Jean Langone Jacques and her husband Wayne of Derry; Janice Jobin of Concord, NH; Joanne Airoldi and her husband Dennis of Missouri City, TX, and Stephen Langone and his wife Kathleen of Manchester, NH, eight grandchildren, Billy, Christopher, Kristina, Corie, Austen, Leigha, Jillian, and Chelsey, one great-grandson, Gage, his sisters, Carol Boudrot of Newton, MA, and Joyce Tyman of Burlington, MA; also several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Malloy) Langone in 1996.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, from 4 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at 10:00am in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry with cremation following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 W. Broadway, Derry, NH 03038 or to the Pinkerton Academy Scholarship Fund, 5 Pinkerton St., Derry, NH 03038.
