Tilton-Dorothy W. Huson of 3 Woodgate Circle died on Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2009, 1 day after her 93rd birthday.
She was born on January 2, 1916 in Springfield Massachusetts to the late Richard and Emma (Wood) Williams. She moved to Towners, New York after high school and worked at the New York Gas Company where she met her future husband Millard over the water fountain. They were married for 65 years. The first 43 years of marriage they lived in Brewster, New York, then 20 years in Dover, New Hampshire, and the final 2 in Tilton. They wintered in Lady Lake, Florida for 25 of those years. After her family was grown, she worked at Guidepost Magazine in Carmel, New York for 20 years.
Music was very important to Dorothy. She was awarded a scholarship to study voice with Ruth Shafner as a young adult and continued to sing in a lovely high soprano voice until her passing. She was a member of the Tilton-Northfield Methodist Church Choir, the Ashland Contata Choir, and the Serendipity Singers.
For most of her adult life she was active in the order of the Eastern Star, she was past Matron of the Brewster Chapter #697 in New York. She was a member of the Pioneer Garden Club in Dover, and a member of the Lady Lake Garden Club in Florida.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Millard F. Huson, Jr. in 2006; two sons, Robert Huson in 1998, and David Huson in 2000; and a sister, Grace Helen Herrick in 1974.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Carole Taylor of Laconia; one son, Jeffrey Huson of Newark, California; seven grandchildren, Cari Williams, Jon Taylor, Chris Taylor, Cynthia Jacks, Sarah Huson, Heather Ristau, and Joshua Huson; ten great-grandchildren; three special people, niece Shirley Trimm, nephew Herbert DeGroot, and Ruth Hunt. She will be missed by many.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service including an Eastern Star Service was held on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at the Tilton-Northfield Methodist Church, 400 West Main Street, Tilton, followed by a reception at Mulligan’s Restaurant, 41 Park Street, Northfield.
Burial will take place in the spring at the family lot in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, with her beloved husband and sons.
