Methuen, MA- Sadie “Sally” (Assad) Simili, 94, of Methuen, died peacefully Friday, January 2, 2009 at the home of her daughter Joanne, with whom she resided. Born on October 18, 1914, Sadie was the daughter of Thomas and Rose (Khoury) Assad. She was born and educated in Methuen and was a longtime parishioner of St. Lucy’s Church.
Sadie worked for many years in area shoe factories as a fancy stitcher. She was an active volunteer at the Methuen Senior Citizens Center and loved cooking, dancing, gardening, playing scrabble, and bowling, which she won several trophies for. She also enjoyed making braided rugs for family, as well as knitting and crocheting afghans, for them and disabled veterans. She always had a thirst for learning and felt that you are never too old to learn. Above all Sadie loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a selfless, loving mother to her children and thus inspired great devotion in them. She was a loyal friend to all who knew her, and her beautiful smile and loving ways will not be forgotten. Those whose lives she touched are genuinely blessed.
Sadie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who will be sadly missed and forever loved by all her family. The widow of the late Patrick Simili with whom she shared 44 years of marriage, Sadie is survived by her four children, Patricia and her husband Wallace E. Ramsden of Windham, NH, Patrick Simili of Clearwater, FL, Carolyn R. and her husband Robert W. Pagliuso and Joanne Rizzo of Lawrence, as well as nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Jennie Basabis of Methuen and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews.
Sadie’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff of the Merrimack Valley VNA and Hospice, for their kindness, compassion and support.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and Friends may pay their respects on Monday, January 5, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 11am at St. Lucy’s Church in Methuen.
