TAUNTON – Mercelena “Lena" (Lopes) Gomes, wife of the late Leo Gomes, died at Morton Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008.
She was 79.
Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Catherine (DeJesus) Lopes.
A graduate of Taunton High School, she later worked as a floor lady for the former Dyecraftsman for over 30 years, before retiring at the age of 65.
A communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church, she leaves a daughter, Caitana “Tanya” Gomes of Taunton; a granddaughter, Stephanie Barboza of Providence, RI; a sister-in-law, Margaret Lopes; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late John, Frank, Edwin, Sebastian, Antonia and Cecelia.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Tuesday, Jan. 6th at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours will be Monday, 5 to 8 p.m.
