Virginia L. (Ireland) Benjamin 93, died peacefully and in the company of her two daughters, on December 31st after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Benjamin.
Born in Newton she was the daughter of the late Wallace and Emily (William) Ireland. She was raised in Weymouth and moved to Abington in 1954.
She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of many card clubs. She loved traveling and documented her trips with the photos she took. She especially loved New Hampshire and the White Mountain area, as well as Cape Cod. However her greatest joy came from the many happy hours spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters Virginia Mandeville and her husband Brian of East Bridgewater, and Lois Kennedy and her late husband Paul of Weymouth, her brother Russell Ireland of Calf., her sisters Jeannette Sjostedt of Kingston and Ruthie Rodger of Calf. She is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Marjorie Belcastro.
Her services will be held Monday January 5th at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held Sunday January 4th from 2-6 PM. Donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society 1115 West Chestnut Street / Suite 301 Brockton, MA 02301.
