Obituary

Alfred J. “Ouchie” D’Amelio Jr., 76 of 196 School Street, Franklin, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at his home, with his family at his side, after a long and valiant fight against cancer. He was the husband of Lois A. (Wyllie) D’Amelio for more than 52 years.

Born in Franklin, October 19, 1932, one of eight children born to the late Alfred and Teresa (Fontaine) D’Amelio, he was raised and educated in Franklin, and was a 1951 graduate of Franklin High School. He resided in Franklin all of his life, and also maintained a summer residence in Falmouth for many years.

Mr. D’Amelio was a retired carpenter who worked for many years for Boston Local #33. After retiring, he was a self employed carpenter in the greater Franklin area, and worked for more than 10 years as a funeral assistant for the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home.

He served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. He attained the rank of Boatswain Mate 3rd Class, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp), and the Good Conduct Medal. His last assignment was aboard the USS Rockbridge (APA-228). He was honorably discharged in August, 1955.

He was a life member of Franklin Post #3402 VFW, and a longtime member of the St. Anthony & Columbus Benevolent Society in Franklin. He was also a former member of Lodge #1414 Sons of Italy in Franklin.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, woodworking, being at the Cape, and the gang at the coffee shop.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 sons: Mark D’Amelio and his wife Cheryl of Franklin, Scott D’Amelio and his wife Cathy of Lincoln, RI, a daughter Kim Molloy and her husband Robert of Mendon, a brother Anthony of Franklin, 3 sisters: Mary Ferioli of Franklin, Josephine Coughlin of Brighton, Eleanor DiBenedetto of Fitchburg, and 6 grandchildren: Brendan Molloy, Justin Ball, Matthew, Elizabeth, Marissa & Rachel D’Amelio.

He was also the brother of the late Joseph D’Amelio, Gloria Cashorali, and Jean D’Amelio.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Monday, January 5, 2009, at 8:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street, www.franklinfuneral.com with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church Franklin at 9:00AM. Interment with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 11:30AM.

Calling hours are Sunday, January 4, 2009, from 2 – 6 PM.
