WORCESTER-Joan E. (Adams) MacAnn, 73, of Worcester, died Tuesday, December 30th in the Jewish Healthcare Center. She leaves a daughter, Sharon L. MacAnn and her friend, Mary E. Landry of Worcester; a son, Scott D. MacAnn of Worcester; a granddaughter, Jessica L. MacAnn of Worcester, whom she raised; a great grandson, Cyrus Paz of Worcester; and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert W. Adams in 2006.
She was born in Oneida, NY, the daughter of Grafton and Irene (Wilson) Adams and graduated from Oneida High School and Salter Secretarial School. Ms. MacAnn was a telephone operator in New York and when moving here, she worked for New England Telephone Company for 35 years, retiring as a maintenance administrator in 1994. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Joan enjoyed sewing, gardening and crafts and had volunteered for Day Break Women’s Shelter.
Although Alzheimer’s eventually took over my mother’s life, in her prime, she raised a family on her own, worked full time, furthered her education, did volunteer work and did most of her own home repairs. My mother will always remain the most inspirational woman to me.
Joan’s family would also like to acknowledge her extended family on the Alzheimer’s unit at the Jewish Health Care Center, with much gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful and compassionate care that she received during her long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Although there are too many names to mention, a heartfelt thank you to Katelyn, Margerita, Elaine, Georgette and Martina for their constant devotion and dedication.
The funeral is Monday, January 5th, with a service at 11:00 A.M. in Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Sunday, January 4th from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609 or Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
