Obituary

Pearl Chadis (Smolker) of Chelsea and Newport News, Va died suddenly on Dec. 30, 2008 in Newport News, VA. She was 91 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Max Chadis.

Pearl was born in Chelsea and spent her life in Chelsea before moving to Newport News, VA to spend the last two years of her life with family. She loved being with her family while enjoying the blossoming flowers and watching the birds from her window. Pearl was a member of the Orange Street Synagogue and the Walnut Street Synagogue, both located in Chelsea, MA.

Pearl was the devoted mother of Eileen Chadis Wood and her husband Dr. Stephen Wood. She was the loving daughter of the late Louis and Sarah Smolker. Pearl was the dear sister of the late Jessie Charney, Jennie Cohen, Mary Hoffman-Birnbaum, Ethel Rutstein, Reuben Smolker, John Smolker and Philip Smolker. She was the loving grandmother of Ronin & Micah.

Graveside services at Chevra Mishna Cemetery, Moray Street, Lynn on Jan. 2, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Rabbi Nochum Cywiak will officiate. Memorial observance will be held in Newport News, VA. Contributions in Pearl's memory may be made to the Chelsea Senior Center, 10 Riley Way, Chelsea, MA 02150 or to the Walnut Street Synagogue, 145 Walnut Street, Chelsea, MA 02150.
