NICHOLAS C. “NICKY” CAPEZUTO of Tewksbury, musician and former Hingham resident and business owner, died on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at age 81 after a long illness. He grew up in East Boston graduating from East Boston High School and attended music school in Washington, D.C. before serving in the U.S. Navy as a trumpet player in the U.S. Navy Band. He served on the USS Portsmouth; Providence and Little Rock and received a WW II Victory Medal. Following his military discharge, Mr. Capezuto also attended Schillinger House School of Music in Boston, currently known as Berklee College. He performed with many notable Big Bands such as; Harry James, Tex Beneke, Louis Prima, Larry Clinton and most notably, Herb Pomeroy. He owned and operated two successful hair salons; one in Portsmouth, NH and “The Lady Fair Coiffures” in Hingham.
Mr. Capezuto is survived by a son, Christopher Capezuto and his wife Sue of San Francisco, CA; two daughters, Alexis Capezuto of California and Amanda (Carr) Pascarella and her husband Bob of Hanover. He is also survived by a sister, Jean DeBaise and her husband Marvin of So. Windsor, CT; his ex-wife and longtime friend, Carol Jane Scannell; a granddaughter and a nephew.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, Jan. 4th at 3 PM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 1 – 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Nicholas may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843.
The interment will be private.
