Marguerite C. “Marge” Brien, 89, of Nancy Ct., Woonsocket, died Monday evening at Oakland Grove Home. She was the wife of the late Gerard H. Brien, to whom she was married on Nov. 30, 1939, and who died in 1996.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Belonie and Lea (Taschereau) Auclair. She was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket.
Mrs. Brien was a homemaker and also worked as a laundry aide at Woonsocket Health Center before retiring.
In the early 1960s she was a Den Leader for Pack 6, St. Joseph’s Church. She was the local, state, and national president of the Franco- American War Veterans Auxiliary, and was also an auxiliary member of the Bacon-Auclair Chapter of the Purple Heart.
She is survived by a daughter, Pauline R. Harris, and son, Gerard H. Brien, Jr., and his wife Joanne, all of Woonsocket, a daughter-in-law Carole Brien of Salisbury, MO. She was the mother of the late Jean P. Brien who died in 2006 in Missouri. She was the sister of the late Francois, Louis, Isaac, Pierre, Alfred, and Armand Auclair, Bernadette Lundy, Eva Bacon, Elizabeth Robin-Beaulieu, Rose Landry, and Therese Auclair. She is survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family including her sisters-in-law Constance Auclair and Jeannette Auclair, and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
